Mehdi Eker, the Turkish Minister of Agriculture visits Azersun Holdings.

Mehdi Eker, arrived in Baku on the 12th December, 2007 on an official tour which included a meeting with senior executives of Azersun Holdings Group of Companies. The Minister and the delegation accompanying him on this leg of his tour, were furnished with comprehensive information on the many and diverse activities of the group. The Minister visited the public corporation of Baki Yap ve Qida Sanaye and observed the vegetable oil and margarine packing process. In his press interview the Minister stated “Azersun Holdings presently employs 5,000 people and supports the economy of Azerbaijan which is of a great significance”.

The Minister was received by senior executives of Azersun at the Culture Centre where he was presented with a range of the company’s products including tea, vegetable oil, margarine, tinned food and packaged goods. Mehdi Eker was presented to, by a number of respective company heads, who provided an insight into their operations.

The Minister was given information covering the tea plantations, sunflower and sugar beet production and he studied the goods produced and marketed by the Group.

During the visit Minister Mehdi Eker, said that the undertakings of Azersun Holdings which for a large part were based on raw materials bought from Turkey, is of a great significance for a number of reasons. Mehdi Eker said that the enterprises created by Azersun Holdings and their support of the Azerbaijan economy was a situation that would continue to grow with more choices of products and a broadening of the Groups activities. The Minister was especially referring to the current 14 subsidiaries and their important work in the agricultural sector. However, he also stressed the particular significance of work carried out in the sugar beet processing and livestock sector.

Fevzihan Aras, Azersun Holdings Vise-President, mentioned that the company established in 1991 is the leading company operating in the food sector. He also stated that Azersun Holdings agricultural activities will continue to expand.

From Azersun Holdings Culture Centre, the Minister and his delegation traveled to the vegetable oil and margarine production fields of “Bakı Yag ve Qida Senaye” public corporation and observed the production processes on the place.
