COMPANY OVERVIEW

Officially known as Azerbaijan Sugar Production Union, the Imishli Sugar Factory owes its existence to the goodwill of national leader Heydar Aliyev and dates its history back to 2003. With 100 million US dollars invested for the set-up of its facilities, the factory has been equipped with the latest machinery purchased and delivered from Germany. The factory is located on the site of 70 hectares in the town of Imishli.
The opening of the factory signalled a new wave of socio-economic revival in the region and marked a positive development in the farming industry in the country.
Shortly after the factory got under way, its sugar products quickly found their niche in the world market.
The Imishli Sugar Factory maintains a capacity of producing up to 1100-1200 tonnes of high quality crystal sugar per day. Currently the regular staff at the factory reaches 1000 members and as a result of the factory activities, 10 thousands families have gained new employment opportunities within the farming industry.
If the early production capacity over the first 3 days at the factory was 500 tonnes of crystal sugar per day, today the production capacity has been doubled to reach 1100-1200 tonnes.
The factory saw a number of important achievements last year. The Imishli Sugar Factory obtained the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System in 2006. Currently the factory is engaged in the upgrading works to meet the ISO 14001 environmental safety management system and the ISO 22000 food safety management system requirements.
The factory gets regularly scheduled for technical maintenance, upgrading and repair works. Thus, as a result of the upgrading works at the Heat Electricity Centre (HEC) in September 2006, the Centre started using natural gas as an extra energy source. In September, 2006 the factory machinery was replaced with the upgraded one. To reduce the level of waste generated during the sugar beet processing and ensure a better quality of crystal sugar the factory applies various technology schemes, combining both raw sugar and beetroot processing methods to obtain high quality crystal sugar. Following the completion of maintenance works at the elevator and conveyors, the factory expanded its sugar drying facilities. Currently there are still maintenance works going in process at the second water freezing tower with the capacity of 2200 m3 /hour. A new lime oven with the production capacity of 150 tonnes has been put in commission with steam, vacuum lines also undergoing considerable upgrading. Meanwhile, the factory initiated
